Welcome to Connected-Couples with Nicole Van Ness, PsyD, LMFT-S
People come to see me for many reasons. Usually it is some variation on this theme: My relationship isn't what it should be.
Our relationships are what make us who we are - friendships, family, co-workers, lovers, partners, spouses - each plays a different role in our lives. Likewise, you play a number of these key roles for others, too.
In therapy, I help you explore who you are in your relationships, what amazing things you have to offer, what is missing for you, and how to create the connections you crave. My work is largely informed by the works and teachings of Esther Perel, Ellyn Bader & Pete Pearson, Brent Atkinson, Virginia Satir, and Rick Hanson. Additionally, I have completed Level 1 and am working on Level II of the Developmental Model of couples therapy. This approach focuses on how each of you "shows up" in your relationship, and the things that get in the way of showing up as the best partner you can be. Most people come see me because of struggles with their intimate/romantic/sexual relationships, although my training as a family therapist allows me to help with any or all of the relationships you wish to focus on.
Whether you are single, married, partnered, separated, or "it's complicated"; whether the issue is sex, pornography, intimacy, communication, infidelity, anxiety, depression, or some combination of these, I can help. I am not here to judge you or tell you how to live your life. I am here to be in your corner - to challenge you to be the version of yourself you can be proud of, and to help you build the kind of relationship you want.
